Slow Sketch February
The two remaining images are a mind-doodle inspired by the Pow Wow Hawaii week (see previous entry's photos) and a drawing from memory of a teen texting while waiting for the bus.
This in particular is a practice I need to persue: Random memory sketches of strangers I see on the street. It seems to be a key to good portraiting skills to memorize and internalize the features before starting the image. I have always been very good at drawing a still object perfectly - just the living, emotional content eluded me in this practice. Now I feel that this latest exercise has me on the way of improving a bit at a time yet again!
The awesomeness of Paint!
Kakaako is getting a new paintjob! Took off from work early yesterday so I could snap some pics of the work in progress (hurray for being self-employed!). Some murals were already finished when I came around, but a lot were still in progress. Met some awesome people, too. Dmize, Eukarezt, Trek & Mike, you guys rock!
Unfortunately, I don't know who the artist to every single piece. But if you want to find out more about the event and all the artists check out their website http://powwowhawaii.com/home/ . They have a map of all the walls, maybe eventually they'll have a link to the pics and artists as well. Check it out when you're in the area this week-end.
Art in Hawaii
Living in Hawaii is an inspiring experience, both artistically and spiritually.
