Art & Design
This is a class assignment week 1 : My World and the Art World.
Art to me is what results from a need of expression and making that goes beyond just decorating something,to me it is depending on the intentions and creativity of the 'maker'. True, art does reach its full potential when seen by an audience, but it does not need to be observed to make it 'good' or 'bad' art. (Hence the comparison with Schroedingers Cat, art exists in the box, regardless of when or by whom it is opened).
I didn't make a sketch for the "What I believe the world thinks art is" because I think that's more defined what people believe it's NOT. A lot of people don't think abstract modern stuff is art because 'everyone could do that', a lot of people think a painting of a unicorn isn't art because it lacks broader intent, many people don't think graffiti is art because it 'defaces' other people's property, and other disciplines like design, gamers, etc are discounted because their product is not made for 'art sake'. So ART becomes more and more elitist, exclusive, restrictive, when it shouldn't.CJ
How time flies! It's been three months since I started doing my daily sketches - and the benefits and joys of my new consistent habit of visualization and 2D picture diary have been immense. Hopefully, the next painting will get started tomorrow, all the sketches and color studies are already done and I'm really looking forward to picking up a brush again.
It's hard for anyone to keep extra chores after a regular job and other commitments, and whatever it is that adds to your life (jogging, extreme sports, knitting, volunteering, cos-play, reading, stamp collecting) don't get discouraged by people who don't share your enthusiasm. There are enough kooky, weird, unique activities out there for everyone, and how boring would life be if we all were into the exact same things? As long as you don't hurt anyone and your hobbies enrich your life (and possibly others') - who's to say you're wrong?
That being said, while my sketching is a tame and inexpensive hobby, I still really appreciate all the encouragement, likes and nice comments from my friends and family. CJ
Art in Hawaii
Living in Hawaii is an inspiring experience, both artistically and spiritually.
